BONSAI PINE TREES

The Bonsai Pine Tree is A favorite for many and does need a lot of care and attention and the examples of this is they need full sun because without it the needles start to extend out and this is not what you want to archive. With these trees you want the needles to stay small and short and they need sun to make this happen. They also must be kept away from wind as this will dry them out even though the Bonsai Pine Tree can tolerate most tempertures.

The Bonsai pine tree I would like to talk about today is the Japanese Black Pine, one of the nicest for bonsai. In spring they are looking the best that they can be as all the new needles have come out pointing upwards. This is one of the points in growing pines as this helps them give that perfect appearance. Needles growing on the underside of the branches should all be removed because this can affect the line of the branch and cross the needles that are growing in the right position. Needles on the Japanese black pine can be removed with tweezers to grab the sheath at the base of the needles moving them up toward the branch to move them without any damage to the bark on the trunk of your Bonsai Pine Tree.

Bonsai Pine trees like the Japanese Black pine sometimes have long distance between the side branches and also some growing along the branch between the two nodes and these should be cut to a little above the top of the sheath around a centimeter from where the needle joins the branch. When you trim the candles are trimmed in the growing period (autumn) this should encourage new growth at the place where the old candles where joined to the branches. Needles on the Bonsai Pine Tree are two to three years deciduous.

Root pruning and repotting the Bonsai Pine Tree can be done on an extensive period of the year as long as they get lots of good care afterwards. Mid spring is the absolute best time, to pot when your tree is showing obvious signs of growing rapidly and the new needles have not begun to show, the reasons for this, one it is the safest period for the tree but you must be careful if there are strong winds or long dry hot spells. Two, this is the best time to repot because the root pruning will slow the growth of your tree and will have a good effect on the candles and needle development during the growing season. Make sure you enjoy the process of creating the perfect tree and see some examples at the links provided on the Bonsai Pine Trees on this page.
