The Juniper is a Versatile Plant and can be suited to many different styles which is what makes them ideal for the beginner some of the styles include Informal, Driftwood, twin or triple trunk and cascade are all possible with the Bonsai Juniper tree.
When caring for the Bonsai Juniper, fertilizing and feeding will encourage vigorous foliage growth and this should be finger pinched for shaping. This is accomplished by using the soft part of the thumb and the forefinger, pinch off the tips before the foliage grows to long and this will encourage side shoots which must also be pinched. Make sure you do not pinch back to hard because this can cause “browning off " die back and juvenile growth to appear. Clean out the unwanted shoots that do not assist you with the shaping as well as any that appear in the branched forks. Bonsai Junipers like lots of bright light, and at least four hours of direct sunlight.

This dwarf Juniper from Japan is the most popular bonsai in the U.S. When we think of a traditional bonsai and what it should look like we think of a "Juniper Procumbens Nana". They are very hardy, long-lived, and tolerate many adverse conditions. Trained in the traditional style, this Juniper Procumbens is popularly known as the "Karate Kid" tree. 15 years old. 16" x 14" x 13". Potted in a 9" ceramic blue/green rectangle container as shown. Suitable 10" x 8" humidity tray is recommended.

Fertilizing Bonsai Juniper Trees should be done with a good nitrogen fertilizer like dynamic lifter. Do this by not placing over the root system in the growing season spring - summer to autumn. Trees can be repotted in early to mid spring and this should be done every two years and every five years for older Bonsai Junipers. . The wiring process for these wonderful Bonsai Junipers should be done in winter. Spread the foliage and emphasize the pads created by pruning.
